Katy Perry (her real name is Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson) was born October 25, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California. This celebrity is singer-songwriter, musician and actress. She changed her last name to Perry because she didn't want to be confused with the American actress Kate Hudson.
Katy Perry grew up in a Christian household, as she is the second child of two pastors. She grew up listening to gospel music and she wasn't allowed to listen to a more modern music. At the young age of 9 years old she began singing in the church. Katy Perry even has a tattoo on her wrist that says “Jesus” and her first album, released in 2001, was with Christian music.
Katy Perry later found her real passion for music as she discovered Alanis Morissette, Freddie Mercury the singer of the British band Queen, Gwen Stefani and Madonna. Her official mainstream debut album was "One of the Boys" released on June 17, 2008 by Capitol Records. This album was well received by the public. The album's lead single was "I Kissed a Girl", released on May 6, 2008. This single reached number one in Billboard Hot 100. The album also features the singles "Waking Up in Vegas", "Hot n Cold" (peaked at number 3 on the US charts), and "Thinking of You" (peaked at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100). This album sold over 5.2 million copies worldwide and because of its success Perry earned two Grammy Award nominations in 2009 and 2010.
